The newly built $1.5 billion Perth Stadium recently hosted it’s first ever sporting event, which saw the England cricket team edge out Australia by 12 runs in the fifth and final ODI of the series between the countries.
Moments before the game started, the ‘9 News Perth’ Facebook page decided it would be a good time to ask the public what they think the new stadium’s nickname should be.
Some suitable names had already been written in the caption, including “Craypot”, “Colinseeum” and “Thunderdome”, but the best names were to come in the comments.
One Facebook commenter amassed over 6,000 reactions and 300 replies on his comment which read:
“Jeff, after my 10 times (sic) Football champion grandpa who sadly passed away 5 years ago.”
This clearly touched the hearts of many viewers of the post, with hundreds of others commenting that they also believe “Jeff” is the most suitable name for the stadium.

We can only hope that the venue is officially renamed “Jeff Stadium” in 2028, with telco giant Optus owning the naming rights for the next 10 years.
