Tom Mitchell has been rushed from the MCG to the Royal Melbourne Hospital after suffering a severe case of leather poisoning on Saturday night.
Mitchell was met with worried Hawthorn medical staff as soon as he left the ground and was promptly placed in an ambulance and sent away.
“We needed to act quickly once the game had finished, no man can handle that much contact with leather in one night,” said a member of the medical staff.
Mitchell was put in intensive care once arriving at the hospital but we can confirm that he is now in a stable condition.
The First Reserve was able to speak to a nurse on the scene, and she told our reporters that “we haven’t seen anything like this in quite some time.”
“It’s particularly bad in his hands,” she noted.
Mitchell will now be on the road to recovery, and some reporters have been mentioning a worst-case scenario of hand amputation.
Luckily for AFL Fantasy players around the nation, even without hands he’ll be good for a triple figure score.
