The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) has been awarded the man of the match in the A-League grand final, which has come as a surprise to many pundits.
The VAR failed to overturn the only goal in the match after it was revealed that the Victory’s James Donachie was in an offside position.
The decision committee for man of the match responded to online criticism, stating, “the inability to overturn an obvious offside goal was the difference in tonight’s game.”
“It was a pretty obvious call for us in the end, the VAR was the most valuable member of the Victory’s squad.”
The VAR was unable to speak to the crowd after winning the Joe Marston medal as it is a camera, however it tweeted out after the match thanking the committee.
“I’m honoured to be the man of the match in such an important game. #GoVictory #ALeagueGF” said the tweet.
